Chapter 8
Turning Commitment Into Momentum
What Will You Do Next?
A decision without a next step is still theory. Many coaching conversations stop at commitment. The client agrees on what they will do, feels motivated, and leaves the session positive. Then nothing happens.
Why "Next" Matters More Than "Everything"
Once the client has decided what they will do, it is tempting to plan everything at once. That creates overwhelm and delay. This framework deliberately asks a narrower question: What will you do next?
Not what will you do this month. Not what will you do eventually. The very next executable step. This keeps momentum alive.
The Difference Between an Action and a Next Action
An action can still be abstract. A next action is concrete. "Improve lead generation" is an action. "Set up one landing page draft by Friday" is a next action.
If the client cannot do it without further thinking, it is not yet a next action. The coach's role is to help the client refine the action until it is immediately executable.
One Next Action at a Time
There is only ever one next action. This is intentional. Multiple "next" actions dilute focus and create excuses. One clear next action creates accountability. Once it is complete, the next next action will become obvious.
Why This Step Prevents Procrastination
Procrastination often appears as overplanning. By forcing a next action, the framework bypasses that tendency. The client does not need confidence or motivation. They only need to complete the next step. Momentum builds from completion, not intention.
