    Chapter 7

    Turning Options Into Commitment

    What Will You Do?

Up to this point, the framework has been about thinking clearly. This is where thinking turns into commitment. Brainstorming creates possibilities. Coaching only works when one of those possibilities becomes real.

Why Decision Matters More Than Ideas

Most business owners are not short on ideas. They are short on decisions. Ideas feel productive without requiring risk. Decisions require ownership.

Coaching that never reaches this step becomes a safe place to talk instead of a process that creates results. This framework does not allow that.

    From Options to Choice

At the end of brainstorming, the client has a list of things they could do. The coach now asks a simple but uncomfortable question: What will you do?

Not what sounds best. Not what feels easiest. Not what you've seen someone else do. What will you actually commit to doing? This question forces movement from possibility to intention.

    Making the Commitment Explicit

Once actions are chosen, they must be stated clearly. Vague commitments are not commitments. "I'll work on my marketing" becomes "I'll build and launch one new lead source."

Clarity at this stage prevents confusion later. The coach reflects the commitment back to the client to ensure alignment. This is not approval. It is confirmation.

Why Coaches Must Hold the Line Here

Many coaches soften this step because they want to be supportive. That is a mistake. Support without structure produces stagnation.

The coach's responsibility is not to protect the client from discomfort, but to prevent endless indecision. A client who leaves a session without a clear decision has not been coached. They have been entertained.
