    Milestones

Turning a Global Objective Into Something You Can Actually Finish

A global objective gives coaching direction. Milestones give it traction. Without milestones, a global objective remains theoretical. The client knows where they want to go, but not what progress looks like along the way.

Why Global Objectives Fail Without Milestones

Most business owners don't fail because they lack ambition. They fail because the path between intention and completion is undefined. Without milestones:

    • Progress feels vague
    • Sessions drift into problem discussion
    • Action lacks priority
    • Completion is never clearly reached

    Milestones replace ambiguity with structure.

    What a Milestone Is

A milestone is a meaningful checkpoint on the way to a global objective. It is not a task. It is not an action. It is not something that can be completed in an afternoon. A milestone represents a state change. Something important becomes true that was not true before.

    For example:

    • A lead source is reliably producing enquiries
    • A sales process is defined and being followed
    • A product is live and generating revenue

Each milestone moves the business closer to the global objective in a measurable way.

One Active Milestone at a Time

At any given moment, only one milestone is active. Clients will often want to make progress on multiple milestones at once. This almost always leads to scattered effort and stalled results.

The framework prevents this by enforcing focus. Working on one milestone at a time does not slow progress. It accelerates it.

    Choosing the Most Important Milestone

Once all milestones are identified, the next question is simple: Which milestone is the most important to work on right now?

This is not always the most urgent or the most exciting. It is the milestone that creates the greatest leverage. Sometimes completing one milestone makes others easier or irrelevant. The coach helps the client see this without deciding for them.

    Milestones and Momentum

Milestones create momentum because they give the client something concrete to move toward. They replace:

    • Endless optimisation with completion
    • Constant ideation with progress
    • Overwhelm with sequence

When a milestone is complete, the client experiences real forward movement. That feeling compounds across the coaching relationship.

Why Milestones Matter More Than Motivation

Motivation fluctuates. Milestones persist. A coach who can consistently define, prioritise, and complete milestones does not need to inspire their clients. Progress does that automatically.
