    Chapter 10

    Execution Control

When Will It Be Done, and How Will You Stay on Top of It?

Execution is where most coaching quietly fails. Not because clients refuse to act, but because action is allowed to exist without structure. Deadlines are vague. Tracking is optional. Repetitive tasks slowly decay until they disappear. Execution does not require pressure. It requires clarity.

    Why Deadlines Matter

A next action without a deadline is a suggestion. Deadlines turn intention into commitment. This framework does not accept "soon," "this week," or "when I get time." A real deadline answers two questions:

    • When will this be done?
    • How will we know it is complete?

    Defining "Done"

Before a deadline is set, the client must define what "done" means. Completion must be observable. "Work on the website" is not done. "Publish the homepage with these three elements live" is done.

The coach ensures that completion criteria are clear enough that there is no debate later.

    One-Off Actions Versus Repetitive Actions

Not all actions behave the same way. Some are one-off. Some must be repeated to create results. This distinction is critical.

    • One-off actions need a deadline and clear completion criteria
    • Repetitive actions need a rhythm, a tracking method, and a maintenance plan

If this distinction is not made, repetitive actions slowly disappear.

    Tracking Without Micromanagement

Tracking is not about control. It is about visibility. The coach does not monitor behaviour. The framework makes progress visible so the client can self-correct.

Complex tracking systems fail more often than simple ones. The best tracking system is the one the client will actually use.

Why This Step Changes Coaching Permanently

When deadlines and tracking are enforced consistently:

    • Clients stop overpromising
    • Execution becomes predictable
    • Coaching becomes cumulative
    • Progress no longer depends on motivation or memory — it depends on structure
